Hampstead House Portrait

The latest of my house 'portraits'. Had been calling them 'house paintings' but that seems to more often mean slapping the Dulux (or Farrow and Ball in certain areas) on...

You Win Some, You Lose Some...

Initial request was 'umpire saying "out"', subsequent pics are attempts to get 'essence' of subject...

Oh dear. All you fine art folk, keep just doing your own inspired pics and never attempt a commission. This was a request from a cricket club, as a present for a retiring umpire. Most of my commissions go smoothly enough - the odd tweak here or there, but I spent hours/days/felt-like-months on this face - all for it to be turned down in the end (I hadn't got the essence of him, apparently). They offered to pay for materials, but that's the very least part of a cost. I said 'let's just put it down to experience'...

Late Wedding Present...

My cousin's daughter Olivia married my childhood friend Dominic a few years ago and I promised to paint their home for them. Matilda and Daphne have joined them since, and the family have just left this house, but I'm finally ready to give them their wedding present...

TUNE TIME!

My lovely friend Louise runs these music classes for little squeekers at the wonderful, hospitable Canonbury pub. I've watched her do them and I want to join in myself, and I'm not a toddler any more! See poster for details...

Trip to France

Went to stay with friends near Bergerac, then popped over to visit artists Nichollas Hamper and Jane Corquin and their very round cat at their amazing home-made house at Verteuil sur Charente, near Angouleme. If you're in the area and want really good art lessons, pay them a visit... http://www.champgiraud.com/art.htm Contact: nichollashamper@orange.fr

Heath Street, Hampstead at night

Have been working on this for a while for David Lightbody. I did a picture of his previous flat in house in Heath Street, and the interior, and this was their next flat - the one lit up. It's a distorted view as you can't actually see the cinema and tube all in one viewpoint, but you can when you use artistic licence...

Abuse in Care Homes

Just as my dear old 95 year old mother has to go into a nursing home, I get asked to illustrate 'Abuse in Care Homes' for London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. I've illustrated similar material for other councils before - the material aiming to empower people to Say No to abuse and confide in someone they trust (harder for those who can't speak for themselves).

Local Islington Scenes

I'm working on a series of cards of local landmarks (started by the ones I did at Christmas for the Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants). London's a big city - will see how far I get, drawing it!
